Firmware upgrade for the low-priority Mitel 6900 phones is done automatically during regular maintenance windows. Firmware upgrade for high-priority phones (those that have an unsupported firmware version or need a critical update) is done as soon as possible. This practice means that firmware upgrade for a high-priority phone may take place at any time, including during working hours. These high-priority upgrades typically take place when the phone is first installed, and may take up to 40 or 50 minutes. During this time, the phone is unavailable for normal use and the LCD displays a download bar that shows the progress of the upgrade.
